Cause of Death – Belarus foreign minister Vladimir Makei died Saturday, according to a brief report from the Belarusian state media service Belta. He was 64.
Before joining the civil service, Makei served in the Soviet Belarusian army from 1980 to 1993, rising to the rank of colonel.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, Makei held a variety of positions, including deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ State Protocol Service, representative of the Republic of Belarus to the Council of Europe, and counselor at the Belarusian embassy in France.
The cause of death is still unknown. Makei had been in the position since 2012.
