A man has died as a result of a house fire in a rural village in County Kerry.
The fire started just after midnight this morning, December 26, in the village of Glenflesk, near Killarney.
The alarm was raised when a passing motorist noticed flames coming from the two-story house, according to RTE news.
Gardai and emergency personnel rushed to the scene, and local firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire has since been extinguished.
A body was recovered from the house and is believed to be a local man aged in his 60s, according to the national broadcaster.
The coroner has been notified and post mortem on the body, which remains at the scene, is due to take place.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai and emergency services are currently at the scene of a house fire in Glenflesk Co. Killarney.
“The fire occurred in the early hours of this morning, Monday, 26th December 2022.
“The fire has been extinguished by local fire services.
“The body of a person has been recovered from the premises. The body remains at the scene and the coroner has been notified.
“A post mortem will direct the further course of any investigation.
“No other injuries have been reported.
“A technical investigation of the scene will be conducted.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
