A 74-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after a serious car accident this morning.
The incident took place at O’Connell Square in Mountmellick, Co Laois at approximately 9am.
After a van collided with a pedestrian, emergency services rushed to the scene.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, for treatment of her injuries.
Gardai say the women remains in a serious but stable condition. No other injuries from the incident have been reported at this time.
A technical examination was carried out at the scene and gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision that occurred in Mountmellick, Co.Laois this morning, Saturday, 24th December 2022.
“At approximately 9am, a van collided with a pedestrian at O’Connell Square.
“The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 70s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment of her injuries. She remains in a serious but stable condition at this time.
“Any road users who were in the area and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
