At least one person was killed and several others were injured after an elderly driver plowed into a South Carolina Wendy’s on Tuesday, officials said.
The driver smashed through the front door of the fast food restaurant at the Pilot Travel Center in Bishopville around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, the car slammed into the restaurant’s counter with enough force to push it all the way into the grill.
Janie Kirkland, 70, of Hartsville, was sitting and eating when she was killed by the vehicle, according to the Lee County Coroner.
She had been with her husband, who had just gotten up to refill his drink when the crash occurred.
