Who is Gan Soujiong? Food blogger ‘Fatty Goes To Africa’ is stabbed to death ‘by rival’ during livestream from Kathmandu market

A street food blogger known as ‘Fatty Goes To Africa’ was stabbed to death while livestreaming from a market in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.

The 20-year-old Chinese victim, identified as Gan Soujiong in local media, was allegedly attacked by a rival blogger in the city on December 4th.

Gan was livestreaming from a busy food market and talking to his friends when he was stabbed in broad daylight.

The suspect, Feng Zhengyung in local media, a 37-year-old Chinese, is also an Internet celebrity named ‘Ayun’ who lives in Nepal and is thought to have a grudge against his rival food blogger.

The shocking video shows Gan speaking to the camera while walking down the street when he is attacked from behind.

Gan appears to drop his phone during the attack, as the screen goes black, but his piercing screams can still be heard.

Gan, who has nearly five million Chinese fans, used his social media platform to introduce followers to the food and culture of other countries.

He had drawn a large audience by sharing his daily life in Africa.

However, the popular blogger will most likely be remembered for live-streaming the attack that resulted in his tragic death.

Gan was stabbed in the chest and abdomen in the middle of the street and died later that night after rescue efforts failed.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Chinese Feng Zhengyung in local media, is also an Internet celebrity known as ‘Ayun’ who lives in Nepal.

On the day of the attack, Gan did a live broadcast, as usual, and was accompanied by two friends.

Just as the group of people were walking, talking and laughing, there was a scream in front of the camera, followed by Gan being stabbed and seriously injured.

The violent shaking and loud screaming interrupted the broadcast, and the screen suddenly went black.

Another third-person video shows Gan sitting on the ground covered in blood while another person — believed to be Feng — can be heard swearing at him in Chinese.

Half-lying on the ground, Gan can be seen clutching his stomach to observe the injury in the abdomen and gesturing for a phone, presumably signalling to onlookers to call for emergency services.

He was later taken to hospital but was declared dead.

Feng allegedly stabbed one of Gan’s friends, who suffered multiple injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by police.

According to preliminary reports, Feng held a grudge against Gan due to a series of disagreements and unresolved debts.

The investigation is still ongoing.
