Who is Paul Doyle?

Paul Doyle, also known as “One Punch Doyle,” was a big-time crook from Salford.

During his 50-year criminal career, he was feared and respected by his fellow Salford criminals.

In the early 1970s, the Manchester hardman made his name in a single night at the city’s Pips nightclub.

In a quick fight, he knocked out five people who tried their luck against him, each of whom fell by a single blow.

Detectives in the city knew him as a “handy lad” who was not to be messed with.

One detective said after viewing CCTV of Doyle knocking someone else out that “it was one the best punches I’ve ever seen”.

He became a gangster, drug dealer, robber, and Manchester United hooligan.

Who is Paul Doyle?

Doyle’s troubles date back to his youth.

In the late 1950s, he was one of seven children born to a Jewish mother and an Irish father.

When his parents divorced, he and two of his siblings moved in with his father.

Doyle told documentary filmmaker James English that because his father worked long hours, he and his brother would burgle stores, resulting in run-ins with the police.

His actions landed him in foster care, where he learned to defend himself.

He was arrested when he was 12 years old, and Doyle claims he ended up in the hospital after fighting back after officers hit him.

At the age of 16, he was part of a group that robbed a warehouse and made off with £3,500.

When was Paul Doyle released from prison?

Doyle’s release from prison on licence was announced in October 2022, at the age of 64.

He’d completed half of a 16-year sentence.

The former gangster, who stands 5ft 8in, has vowed to use his newfound freedom to steer young people away from crime.

“Over the years, with experience, I’ve come to realize there are other ways to do things than just going back and forth from prison,” he said.

“When I saw young lads in prison, they are like zombies.

When was Paul Doyle released from prison?

“The person I was then isn’t the person I am now. I can’t go back to that life.

“If I breach my licence, I’ll be going away for a very long time.”

Since being released from prison, he released a book called Surviving The Madness which details his life as a criminal.

Why did Paul Doyle go to prison?

Doyle was imprisoned in 2015 for plotting to flood the north with £300 million worth of heroin, cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamines.

He spent the money on a comfortable life in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, in an £800,000 home.

Until the police arrived in 2014, his neighbors had no idea what the hardman was up to.

Doyle purchased the property in 2004, shortly after completing a seven-year sentence for drug dealing.

He was claiming tax credits and other handouts at the time, claiming that two heart attacks had rendered him unable to work.

To secure a mortgage, he falsely claimed that his wife was an executive earning £200,000.

Monthly mortgage repayments were about £3,000 but the accounts were consistently in arrears.

As Doyle failed to pay the monthly repayments, he became involved in a series of major wholesale drug deals which ultimately led to his arrest.

He was sentenced to 16 years in prison but served only eight.

Does Paul Doyle have any children?

Doyle’s family lost their home in Altrincham when he was imprisoned.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Paul Doyle raised 11 children in his £800,000 home.

The family have since lost the property and Mrs Doyle is now living in a council house in Salford.

It is believed that he is still married.
